Aqua Vitae series was painted on the ground outside under native trees on Mt. Tiburon overlooking the San Francisco Bay in Northern California. In this liminal space where land meets the Pacific Ocean, rainwater from the first atmospheric river was mixed with acrylic paint and gold, gravity, and foliage in the environment to develop the compositions.

Between  October and March 2023, California experienced an extraordinary number of atmospheric rivers— thirty-one total. These powerful weather events brought record-breaking rainfall, and transitioning from drought and fire to flood raises questions about the delicate balance of the elements and human impact on them. These paintings invite contemplation on human interrelationship with weather cycles locally and worldwide.
